Holiday promotion for Tanning Salon
I am looking for a Holiday promotion for a local, fairly new Tanning Salon. It's definitely the nicest salon in town....great people, atmosphere, superb customer service. Want's to do specials and prizes, and sell lots of gift certificates. Wants to incorporate Facebook also. Any ideas out there?

This is tough. The American Academy of Dermatologist's is running a campaign right now warning about indoor tanning, so you don't want to "sell the sizzle." I'm all for combining numerous businesses into one campaign. If they don't already have their own skincare line, you could put together a package that includes the ubiquitous facial makeover including a cut and style from a local salon and more, if you like. Maybe a ski package, hotel/casino stay etc. Have a "Join our Facebook Friends and receive a number of free tans. You could do a twelve days of Christmas promotion where prizes increase each day. How about a half price gift certificate promotion or a free tan day with a blast letting present clients know on your Facebook page? I realize that none of these are barn-burning ideas, but tanning salons are tough sells because most people just go to the closest one. If nothing else works, sometimes a simple phrase like, "the nicest salon in town" helps.

Did one one time based on "skin as white as snow"....people had pictures taken and brought them in to see who had the whitest arms, legs, whatever G- rated body part you desire. Winner got tanning and a 3 day cruise- tied in with travel agency, etc...As David said though, WATCH OUT for all health and legal issues!

This doesn't help for holiday, but how about using the name Tanuary for some specials in Jan.
