Last week's PROSALESGUY BLOG gave you 10 great tips to becoming better organized.  Some of these suggestions are traditional techniques that will stand the test of time.  Others are based around new developments in technology.  Why stop there?   Here are 10 more for you...

10 more GREAT TIPS to being better ORGANIZED...

1.  Don't allow yourself to be distracted with your thoughts

This one is common for me.  When you're thinking about something, don't allow your mind to wander.  If another thought comes to mind, WRITE IT DOWN quickly and get back to the matter at hand.  Don't let your mind become like your desktop with too many files open.

2.  Tackle the things you don't like FIRST

It's human nature to want to do the things you like first and spend most of the day doing them.  This means that you leave the office leaving guilty because once again, you left the things you hate until the end of the day and ran out of time to get to them.  Be honest, you are your own worst enemy on this.  Flip it around.  Start the day with the things you HATE.  Get them done to move onto the tasks you like best.  This way you get those chores done, have no guilt and end the day on a positive note.

3.  Learn the difference between URGENT and IMPORTANT

Please see the PSG BLOG from September 16th.

4.  Develop a GET IT DONE ATTITUDE

So many of us suffer from proscrastination.  Understand it is a CONSCIOUS DECISION on your part to not do something.  Stop being the victim.  Decide to be the Victor.  Get it done - Now!

5.  Make use of the word NO

People pleasers have a tough time with this one.  While no one likes to hear the word NO, all of us understand we can't always get what we want.  If NO bothers you, use "NOT NOW...Can this wait until tomorrow morning?"

6.  Get rid of stuff you don't need

Throw paper that is not important in recycling.  Delete emails that don't require attention immediately.  Perhaps 25% or more of what's sitting in your Inbox or desk is garbage taking up space and adding to your stress of a messy environment.

7.  Always attempt to simplify things

Try make everything as simple as it can be.  The more complex it is, the less you will use it.  I have always felt it's smart to turn grey into black or white.  It's easy to distinguish and recognize.

8.  Change and don't be stubborn

OK, so we all hate change.  Dry your eyes Princess.  It's part of life.  Adapt and understand that it's not what happens that makes the difference, it's how you DEAL WITH IT that DOES.  Your stubborness to NOT buy into change takes effort.  Use that effort to move forward and be part of the solution vs. the problem.

9.  Never put yourself into a losing situation

That's plain silly, no?  Let someone else play the role of martyr and be the topic of discussion at coffee or lunch.

10.  Be prepared for the WORST and expect THE BEST

This is my favorite personal philosophy.  It requires you to stay positive and expectant toward success, yet be fully prepared for a train wreck.  This way you have the best of both worlds.  You can see and taste a positive outcome.  You also have a plan should things turn otherwise.  People who do this are SMART and ORGANIZED.

Add these 10 Tips to last week and you are now the Robocop of Organization.  In my training programs, I often ask people to pick 3 of them that LEAP out at you. Automatically, these are the ones that you can see the biggest immediate improvement from.  Tackle them and become good at each of them.  Then, look at the list again and focus on the next group of 3.  In no time, you will turn yourself into a very efficient, organized person.
