Many of us realize the importance of having a MENTOR. A Mentor is an important role model in your life that has many qualities than you respect and wish to emulate. To achieve greater heights on the ladder of success, think about having a PROTEGE. Here's why both are helpful in your personal and career development...

Success can mean different things to different people. It can be a high paycheck, impressive net worth statement or the lifestyle that goes with it. For others, SUCCESS is the respect and admiration from co-workers, colleagues, your employer or the industry you serve. For others, it is even more altruistic. Recognition and acknowledgment from the community and the ability to reach out to those less fortunate is a form of success for many people who wish to give back to society.
No matter what SUCCESS means to you, all of us wish to CLIMB ITS LADDER. We all want to get better at what makes our heart beat and rise to higher levels. This gives us a feeling of self-satisfaction and achievement and makes us sleep better at night, knowing we are making a difference. Here's a way to get up the next rung...
Much publicity and talk has been given to having a MENTOR in the development and pursuit of your life and career goals. A MENTOR is someone you respect. They have qualities that are admirable. They are knowledgeable, experienced, patient, understanding, well respected and great communicators.
They are people you wish to learn from in an effort to become MORE LIKE THEM. There is no doubt what great influence a MENTOR can have on you. If you truly wish to climb THE SUCCESS LADDER, find a MENTOR and let them know that you would like them to accept the role.
This is the role that is less well known. Perhaps, it's not as sexy and bold as the MENTOR. It's not often that someone stands up shouting, "I want to be a PROTEGE!" Yet the role of the PROTEGE is vital in understanding the relationship between teaching and learning.
I'm sure you've heard the saying "Every GREAT TEACHER needs a GOOD STUDENT and every GREAT STUDENT needs a GOOD TEACHER." Together they are like a spark and gasoline that ignite to form combustion.
The PROTEGE is someone who is eager, quick to learn, hard-working, enthusiastic, open minded, adaptable, motivated and goal oriented. The PROTEGE is looking to advance their level of success by finding people that they can LEARN FROM. True enough, they are looking for acceptable MENTORS.

If you really want to achieve great heights on THE LADDER OF SUCCESS, consider being both a MENTOR and PROTEGE. While you learn from the great qualities of your MENTOR, look over your shoulder. Do you see someone similar to you a while back? Someone is who is eager to learn and searching for the opportunity to get better at what they do?
You may have found your PROTEGE! If you are willing to take the knowledge of your MENTOR, you certainly should be willing to pass it on to your PROTEGE. If not, then you should really take a good look in the mirror.
If you really want to be a LEADER and aspire to greater heights, start teaching what you know and believe in LEADING BY EXAMPLE. You will have NO CHOICE but to be the product of your words. If not, your CREDIBILITY will be reducing to nothing and you will exposed to be a fraud. That's why THE SUCCESS LADDER works.
With your MENTORS pulling you up and your PROTEGES pushing you up, you have a fast track to climbing that ladder. Then you can become the person you are truly capable of.
I have practised this technique for the past 25 years and write from the heart. I incorporate THE SUCCESS LADDER into all of my training programs. It works. It has only one catch. You need to WORK HARD at it. No pain, no gain - like anything of substance in life.
