Rick Cavagnaro replied to Mary Ellen C Moss's discussion 'TV ROI vs Radio ROI'
Mary Ellen, I know that can be very frustrating.  First, you are correct that the "mention this ad" approach is bad.  We strongly oppose that in any ads on our stations as customers can actually be offended by this strategy of…

Rick Cavagnaro replied to Diana Watters's discussion 'copy ideas for ATV dealer'
Diana, I've been writing commercials for a long time and have done many ATV commercials.  ATV's commercials are no different than other products.  Identify the target consumer, why they will buy the product, and what creates…

Rick Cavagnaro replied to Joyce Routson's discussion 'How to avoid the summer doldrums in radio sales'
I personally dealt with this for years as well as manage sales execs through the "dog days".  I've found that the best way to beat this is to have a well executed plan that recognizes that we need to enjoy the season as well as…

Rick Cavagnaro replied to Steven L. Rhyner's discussion 'Proctor & Gamble'
Although it's been years since my days as a co-op director, I've found that the direct approach to major companies will rarely bring the results you want in co-op funding.  From your question, I would assume you are trying to work…

Rick Cavagnaro replied to Leslie Cassis's discussion 'Community Owned Hospitals'
This is a very good question as we are all exploring ways to serve the healthcare category.  The first question on the billboard use is probably based on a lack of belief in radio as a vehicle to deliver their message.  I would think it…

Hi, Rick - You might also try http://www.contestboxes.com. In this era of specialization, it's not too surprising that there should be a company like this online. Best, Rod

My hearty stock of entry boxes have seen their better day and I need to replace them.  Does anyone have a supplier that is good and inexpensive?  Thanks!

Rick Cavagnaro replied to Rebecca Schwartz's discussion 'Friday Poll: How Many Voice Talents?'
We use Cascade Broadcast Services from Spokane for a portion of our local production and they have 5-6 voices, in house we have 9-10, plus we have an intercompany voice exchange system that provides access to all of the voices within our company.…

Rick Cavagnaro replied to Rebecca Schwartz's discussion 'Friday Poll: How Much Time Do You Spend Creating Spots?'
This varies greatly depending on the time of the month but I would probably say that an average week would be 5-10 hours in writing/producing/voicing commercials.

Jeff, Your question is very good and one that is usually answered with a huge "depends". If you have access to historical data on the station, it would be very helpful as history patterns tend to repeat themselves. Other factors to…

Hi Rick, yeah would say you are in a small market, and I'm glad to have you as a friend, tell me how big is that market? You guys really aren't that far from us. I'd love to hear more.

Rick;

Gem City Motors is not a big advertiser with us at this point. They spend less than $5,000 a year. They are on an Annual Contract for "Phoners"; one per week on each of our three stations; and they swear by them.

Gem City is also a regular sponsor of our Fantasy Football Promotion on KTHC and on www.KTHCRadio.com Website.

The also co-sponsor our Sidney Ag Appreciation Breakfast and other Sidney-type events.

The other two automobile dealers in Sidney are strong advertisers with us and I think that brings more "buyers" into the market; and that helps Gem City as well.

Big Sky Motors is not on the air with us.

Not much help; sorry!
