R.I.P Tom Anderson

Utah owner Tom Anderson dead at 72.

Longtime Utah station owner Tom Anderson died early today according on his family. He was 72. Anderson began his radio career as a part-time announcer during high school at the suggestion of a speech class teacher. Eastern Utah Broadcasting owns “Kickin Country” KARB, hot AC “The Peak 95.3″ KRPX and “News Talk 750″ KOAL in the Price, UT area.

Not long ago, I had the pleasure of listening again to Tom Anderson's famous description of how his station handled, and recommended that their advertisers handle, the perennial economic disaster in his market: the coal miners' strike. It's well worth a listen!

Congratulations to Tom Anderson on his induction this summer into the Utah Broadcasters' Hall of Fame.  Tom was one of Jim Williams' earliest "students" and helped Jim illustrate the power of radio advertising and the importance of local radio to the community/ies it serves.  Well done, Tom!   (Thanks to RSC member Fletcher Ford for bringing the video to our attention.)
