Breast Cancer Awareness Promotional Ideas

We have organized a Pink Tee Shirt Tour in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness....lucky for us, our station logo and call letters are pink....pink is our color so this just makes sense. We are a HOT AC station with a female heavy listening audience. However, we are struggling a bit with no budget on how to make the pink t-shirt tour attractive to the listening audiece. We are going to sell Live Action Broadcasts to our clients and at each broadcast we are giving away pink t-shirts (t-shirts are printed on trade). We have figured that we will give 10% of the advertising schedule to Susan G Komen and we will also be selling the ribbon pins for $1 to raise money as well. We are also seeking T-shirt sponsors, 10% of this money will also be given to Susan G. Komen. I guess what I am looking for is that special something to include that makes the listeners go WOW....ya know...the WOW factor. Any suggestions?

Do you have a mobile mammogram van in your area? You can check with a local hospital for availablity and see what it's schedule is, then plan your remote broadcast around that schedule. Several years ago I worked with several hospitals and they gave away 95 mammograms including readings. One lady who won one of the mammograms, had no insurance and was diognosed with BC as a result of this test. So anything we can do can make a big difference. Also local health departments have marketing money to support campaigns like this. Your local HD might be a sponsor possibility. Any department store that has a women's department would be another possibility. Local delis or bakeries could give pink cupcakes to sell. how about an auto body shop that restores wrecks giving a pink car to raffle off to listeners.

I'd say....sell the t-shirts with proceeds going towards the foundation! We sold station t-shirts with special designs for our morning show on them with the proceeds going to our local area Relay for Life and raised a good amount of money! Would the stores that sponsor the t-shirts be willing to sell them for you also?

We've done a "Bras Across the Bay" promotion to raise funds for Komen, and the visual is the "wow" factor. (Unless you're in a very conservative community). We partnered with a restaurant with "Bay" in their name. women brought in decorated bras to be strung across the entrance. There was good signage describing what was going on. We asked that each donate $10 as well. Women's book clubs, yoga groups, and others got into it. We also had three different "sized" bras cut out of heavy stock paper. The "D" cup was a $10 donation, "B" was a $5, and "A" was anything less. The purchasers would write on the bra "In memory of____" or "In Honor of____"

Our Hot AC station hosts a series called "Breast Business of the day" .The package includes commercials, website, and they choose a day that their business is featured on the air the entire day. The car dealerships are involved and they contribute $100 per car sold in the month. All the funds are donated to the local hospital for Free Mamograms. It's a win win all around. Last year $35k was raised.
