We have had great success with our Merry Christmas Cash promotion. We set up registration boxes at sponsoring businesses, and then starting on December 1st, we have the business draw a name from the box and we call that person on air. Make sure the reg box and promos tell listeners that they will be called live. If they answer the phone with "Merry Christmas" or their voicemail/answering machine starts out with "Merry Christmas" they win $50. Listeners loved it! And the calls were great entertainment as people tried to backtrack or remember to say it instead of hello.

We have fun with our "12 Days of Christmas" contest! Get 12 sponsors to participate and then enjoy! The idea is to sell each of 12 days that have different ad packages and levels of investment. Days 1-4 are the highest, 5-8 a little lower, and 9-12 the smallest. Each sponsor also supplies a prize.

When the contest starts (Day 1), the station employees sing "live" in the morning show: " On the 1st day of Christmas  SPONSOR 1 gave to me..." -- then sing the prize they gave. The first listener to call in and repeat it word-for-word gets entered into the contest.

On Day 2 (and each succeeding day) that day's sponsor is sung for (again "live", by all available station employees): "On the second day of Christmas SPONSOR 2 gave to me...." then the prize they gave. Then you sing the preceeding day(s). The first listener to call in and repeat that day, PLUS EACH PRECEEDING DAY, word-for-word is entered into the contest.

On the wrap-up day (after day 12), the show host draws a name from all those who qualified during the contest. If that person repeats ALL 12 days exactly word-for-word, they win the entire package of prizes that were provided by the sponsors. At the FIRST mistake, they are stopped and another qualifier is drawn. Repeat until there is a winner.

If sponsors donate prizes valued above $100, we treat them to a few bonus ads. This encourages the sponsors to provide high-quality prizes (last year the package value was close to $3,000.00!!!).

This is such a popular contest, and so much fun, that most of the sponsors re-book their next Christmas' participation right away in the new year -- it is virtually sold-out in the first week of January!

One more benefit: because the singing is done "live" (not recorded) by the available station employees, there is a lot of fun interaction with the listeners, providing that emotional connection we all desire in the radio industry!! The management, administration, and sales staff are all involved with the on-air hosts in presenting the contest.

We did "The Christmas Cash Cube" last year.  It was very successful.  Promotion dates, November 14th – December 17th.  The cube was an 18” square acrylic cube with blower so that the cash inside is constantly moving around.  There was a minimum of $500 to a maximum of $1,500 in the Christmas Cash Cube.  We would announce when and where the Cube will be on display.  Listeners would guess as to what they thought was the exact amount of money in the Cube, only one guess per Cube Appearance.  On December 20th, a Christmas Cash Cube broadcast was held at 8:10am on all three radio stations.  At that time we announced the names of Contestants who have correctly guessed the exact amount of money in the Cube.  Then, by random drawing from all of the entries with the exact amount, one Contestant was declared the winner of the Contest.  People love to win cash, especially during the holidays.  Here’s the link for you tube where you can see the cash cube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVtf-kJx2Ok  You can do the cash cube anytme during the year, just decorate it.  I have all the details if you’re interested.
