Has anybody in the group had any success getting business from your Wal-Mart or Dollar stores? Even though they don't do local radio, I see their flyers and circulars in our local paper. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Contact the store manager.  They've done small community events in the past with us.

We have only been able to get small community type support from them, local football tournaments, fire salutes and both local WalMarts consider it a "donation".   I have to go to the store and they give me cash!

The above advice has been our experience also. Must be community event and small dollars.

Have not had any luck yet with Dollar Stores and Dollar General, but continue to work at it. Have had a little better luck with my last two Wal-Marts.  Mine have admitted to having about $150 or so a month they have discretion over. Lots is used on community support type things, but they have purchased spot advertising a local sports packages when the price has been right.

Don't spend too much time on these guys.  They'll rarely, if ever, buy local radio.  You're better off going after sponsorship dollars instead. Sometimes they have discretionary dollars for community events.
