I'm trying to figure out a fun year-long promo we can do for a Sports Talk station.  Maybe a creative way to celebrate local athletes or something.  We're running an Honor A Vet program on the sister talk radio station.  Has anyone done anything successfully in their market?

"GameChangers" is a good option. "Athletes who are changing the game on the field and in the classroom." Have listeners nominate student-athletes on your station site and then pick one each month. Fold in a prize sponsor and give a gift certificate to the person who nominated the winning athlete. Interview the athlete on your local show(s), then run promos celebrating him/her as that month's "Gamechanger".

Good fits for hospitals, physical therapists, professional services, and local sports bars.

We have been doing this for more than ten years now and it has been very successful.  We have an athlete of the week program.  We choose an athlete each week that has had an outstanding performance and highlight their accomplishment of that week on the air.  The athlete only gets chosen once a year so a really good athlete doesn't get recognized to the point nobody listens to see who is the next AOTW.  We sell name sponsorships.  These sponsors are in the open and close of the program that airs five times one day of the following week.  We choose Thursday.  They are also mentioned in promos that we run throughout the day every day of the week.  Our program runs just during the school year(Sep to May).
