I am looking for a fundraising idea for our local Chamber. (To use for advertising of course.) Any ideas that have worked well in your area?

    Laura:
Well this is one that will really make them believers, but you have to really want to do something to rick their world.
Every February I give the local Rotary Club one of my radio stations for a day. They get ALL of the inventory for that day (minus about a minute an hour) to sell and to run. On that day, the entire club comes to the stations because all ads must be read live by Rotary club members. What they sell, they bill themselves and they keep. In the case of Rotary, these are high end people in our area, and they are selling radio AND are live on the air for a day.
Needless to say it is quite the enet and most times they raise about $15K or so.

Awesome idea! We do something similar with the Jaycees. They sell name mentions for $50 and then during Jaycee week they come in and do the morning show....We get half they get half.

have done similar promo at lots of stations, always works. for the cofc, try a member servives auction. example; rose g. bakes the best apple pies in town. she promises one per month, to the highest bidder. bank president says he will mow your lawn every week for the summer. cant be his kid, must be him. see how the bidding goes if there are several banks in area.everyone in area can get involved, not just active chamber members. everyone has something they are really good at that they can do. i did this for the livingston mt. chamber back in the 80s, it was great. lots of money raised, new members were added and the chamber continued. one bank offered a gourmet meal served in there vault. doctors offered tes, and vasectomys free. it is endless in the services that can be offered. good luck randy brooks

Nothing raised funds for a chamber like new long term members. This promotion also serves as nice lead generator for the station....and it's pretty easy, make up some certificates and let your traffic system do the rest.

    Here is a press release:
"Local radio stations shows support for new businesses.

Local Radio Station KXXX, in a show of support for the economic growth of burgeoning area business, recently donated $25,000.00 in advertising to the local Chamber of Commerce to be doled out to new members of the local Chamber.

When asked about the “Stronger Chamber Initiative” and the donation to the Chamber of Commerce, KXXX General Manager Johnny Radio said, “We are proud to make this donation to the Local Chamber of Commerce. We feel the Chamber does a fantastic job in advocating and promoting local business and this donation and our efforts are meant to compliment that. At KXXX we feel that our local businesses are a big part of what makes this area so special. This donation is one small proactive step forward into our area’s bright economic future. We feel that our local businesses are the cornerstone of our area and we will do what ever we can to help new businesses and established businesses that have been contributing to the area’s economic viability for years.”

Johnny Radio went on to encourage others to support business in this area by shopping local first.

The $25,000.00 donation will be dispersed in $500.00 increments to the first 50 businesses that join the Local Chamber of Commerce.
