I stumbled across an interesting and substantial archive of Presidential Election television advertising going as far back as the 1952 Eisenhower campaign, through the 2016 Trump campaign. It's called "The Living Room Candidate."
Watching these old spots and studying the variety of approaches taken by the different campaigns can be instructive for anyone tasked with creating spoken-word advertising for political candidates.
