Taking a Stand

I am curious as to whether anyone has chosen to take a stand on a particular issue in your community? I know as far as our news goes...we do not take a stand we report the news as it happens. However, we have an issue with our City Manager in which we want to stand behind him while a City Councilman is throwing out accusations. How about you? Would you take a stand or stay clear?

Yes, if you do nothing but present music and news you are not a factor in the community. Through commentaries and an occasional editorial you can become a local respected entity. While you should not set out to be controversial, you occasionally will be if you are doing your job. Don't be like some TV stations which present what they call editorials which endorse only motherhood, the United Way and apple pie. You need to tackle the difficult subjects if you are to gain respect. However keep opinion out of the news....better at the end of the news and clearly labeled.

We've don't take a stand on issues. We believe that it is the media's job to present the story/issue and let the public decide for itself. If you take a stand with the City Manager, and it later turns out the the Councilman's accusations are true, what does that do to your credibility?

That has always been my view on this subject. However, I may have used the incorrect word of accusations. This is actually more a case of this councilman wanting to change our form of government. Our City Manager is also our Economic Development Director. He has done a fantastic job with both. This councilman would like to split the job and change our form of government to a mayoral run city. Don't you just love small town politics! Thanks for all of your input.
