does anyone want to trade your yearly promotions ideas that sell well every year? I have 2 50,000.00 watt stations in a fairly small market but we have had some pretty good promotions in the past.

what are your current promotions for January and February?

    Hi Lisa,

Thanks for posting! I'm looking forward to seeing the ideas that RSC members share here. In the meantime, I would encourage you to do a search of past discussions using the term "promotions" (just click the "Forum" tab at the top and use the search box immediately under the title "Discussion Forum"). It brings up a lot of ideas that RSC members have posted over the past several months, both for seasonal promotions and promotions for specific business categories. Hope that helps!

    Best wishes,

    Rebecca

We are doing Value Line Shopping in February. It is an on air auction where we trade merchandise for advertising. We hold the auction on Saturday. We have so much "stuff" lined up this time we will most likely have to go two Saturdays. Its a great promotion to add income when the month is slower.

I am not sure how you are making money and where do you get the things you are aucioning? because it seems like you are just trading? sounds fun though.

We trade merchandise with area businesses for advertsing then auction the items on the air. The money we receive from the auction is ours. They get the full amount of advertising at our highest rate. We try to get businesses that do not normally advertise with us or it is above and beyond their annual agreement. We also only give them a month to use the advertising. We get the contract for the merchandise the order and the ad all at once. That saves you from having to go back so many times. KSID only does this once or twice a year. February and October when sales are slower here. We try to get it all sold on one Saturday but it has become so popular it takes us two.

It has become so popular that it takes two Saturdays. In October we tried to do the second day on a Sunday afternoon and that flopped. We ask for a minimum starting bid and then take calls from there. Sometimes we get it right away and sometimes they call with a smaller bid. We shoot for 75% and most times get it. A few times the bidding became a war and the bid went higher than the retail price of the product.

we do a a vanlentine promotion where we play the newly wed game! it is so funny... we get all the sponsors we can usually we incorporate a motel-hotel or bed and breakfast in the area to give away a 2 night romantic stay and we aslo incorporate a resturant to allow us to play our game at their location. then we ask all of our other sponsors to donate something to ad to the package and then we also have prizes for the last 2 runners up. we put together a spot package and we run lots of promo's with our sponsor names and locations. we run this for several weeks and ask listeners to write, fax,or email in thier letters as to why we should pick them as one of out couples, then we pick out fav's and read several on the air. we have had some sad, funny and some downright crazy ones. we pick 5 couples. our morning DJ dressed as cupid one year and read our questions. we came up with our questions on our own and tried to keep them as clean as possible because we had alot of people bring their families out to watch.( but we just had to say woopie just once lol ).
