Hi Jeff,
One of the things that the Beef Councils and Pork Producers are always trying to do is to educate the city people about where their food originates. This has been one of their goals for a long time and although I've not worked in Illinois for many years, I'm sure it is still an issue.
A number of years ago we did a "Farm-City" breakfast on our parking lot in association with the Illinios Pork Producers. They put the whole thing together in cooperation with the Egg Council and the Beef Council, brought in exhibits to show attendees where their food came from, brought in the food and grills and cooked breakfast for the 5,000 people who showed up on a Saturday morning. The whole thing was great for everyone involved and cost the station a resounding $ 11 for a food service permit from the City.
All this was tied to advertising schedules purchased by each organization, which netted considerably more than the aforementioned $ 11.
We did a series of Cooking Classes with the WI Beef Council that was very successful.... listeners would "win" a pair of tix to the exclusive event. We brought in Local Chefs who prepared several dishes... we did tasting... and gave each attendee a goodie bag filled with recipes and other items from other sponsors.
