I  need help. A local Doctor just returned to town and took over the practice from his friend who passed. This new doctor wants to run as a "Country" Doctor in the old way as 1. Always being available. 2. You are not a number at his office. 3. He grew up in this town, etc. I think you get the idea. I need help in coming up with ideas for him.

BTW He is my Doctor and a very good personable guy.

First thing that comes to mind is the Michael J Fox movie, Doc Hollywood. This gets my mind (and hopefully yours) going... Maybe he sponsors a "kids matinee" at the local theater - showing family/kid friendly flicks - or the cool old school flicks we grew up with - where you'd go to see a old Disney movie, but there'd be like 30-40 minutes of animation shows prior to the screening - something that would get the attention of the family-focused town. It could be a Saturday only thing or Saturday and one day mid-week for those that are not in school yet. Or...Maybe he holds a town hall meeting at a couple of local churches...maybe once a month for the next 6 months (hitting maybe the top 6 religions in the area..Catholic, Methodist, Baptist, etc) - focusing on child health or caring for aging parents or any number of topics that hit the "country" family. Or...partner with the local 4H or Boy Scounts and/or Girl Scouts - help them get their next badge, learn to triage if a friend or adult near them is hurt...or the new CPR procedures (pumping on chest only, no mouth-to-mouth). He's going to have to give some of his time (which it sounds like he won't mind) to reach the community where they "live." Hope this helps or maybe spurs you into certain direction. Also - radio would be the way to not only support these efforts/raise awareness...but if your station has a website, clips from each of these ideas could be posted/shared. Happy trails... Cassandra

    He's in a great situation.

He has an existing base of patients. He needs to calm fears that he will not be as good as the previous doc. The best way to do that is remind the current patients that Dr. Deceased loved and cared about everyone of his patients...so much so that he specifically asked me to come back and look after your health.

To go after new patients, he can capitalize on the dissatisfaction with healthcare and healthcare legislation. "When it comes to healthcare I'm like you. I don't know what the politicians and insurance companies will decide. What I can do is help you make the best decision regarding the health of you and your family. I'm Dr. Newguyintown..."

    Hi Dave,
I'm new to this cafe so I'm not sure if I'm supposed to give youcopy ideas or what but this is what I came up with....
    Dianna

In days gone by, the "Country" Doctor was a family physician who knew his patients from their birth on. The familiarity was a comfort to the one seeking the best treatment while giving the doctor the best basis for successfully treating his patients. You can still find that kind of doctor, right here in __________ (town name). Dr. _________ has decided to return to ___________ (town name) to serve you, the kind of people he grew up with, people who taught him to be personable, generous and respectful. He brings back plenty of educated training, sure. But he also brings a commitment to always be available, because, as you know, illnesses don't make appointments! He's also commited to getting to know you as an individual because your medical history is important. Find the kind of health care you've always looked for at the office of Dr. ____________ in ______________.
