I was just wondering if anyone has had any out-of -the -ordinary gym membership campaigns.  I am dealing with an owner who is just not interested in any advertising at all unless someone presents an idea that knocks his socks off.

I have tried pitching "makeover" and "bootcamp" contests with him already.

If anyone has got some catchy ideas, they would be much appreciated

    Thanks!

Biggest Loser is a huge trend right now... you could try that. Make it a big station promotion with other sponsors but make him the title sponsor--that way he feels like he is the top dog! Pitch it to a salon, a clothing store--even a doctors office could get involved, maybe a dentist could offer the finalists teeth whitening or something like that. Thinik larger scale and make him the major focus.

    Jennifer,

Invite your listeners and station personalities to join a "Twenty Pound Club." Everyone vows to lose 20 pounds and track/post weight lose on your web site. When they hit the 20 pound goal something happens like winning prizes, front row seats at a station event, etc.

    Hope this helps!

The client may like the idea of a jingle. Check this one out we just created for Prime Time Fitness in Las Crusves, NM.

I deal with an Anytime Fitness here. I wish it were my idea but its notThey did a weight loss pool, where everyone chipped in money, $10 for members, $15 for non-members. At the end of the set weight loss period, the top 5 "losers" split the pot.

    Jennifer

Last New Year I ran a Resolution 2010 campaign with rotating sponsors, etc. It was simply a couple of 30's rotating daily pushing listeners to keep up with their resolutions.
It got good response and we put a number of advertisers on the air with it. Backed it up on the website and
    on our newspaper ads.

    Happy New Year

Have you thought about doing and endorsement with your talent? I know that most guys and gals behind the mic would love a crack at a free gym membership. I have some great packages in power point that I can send you if you like.

The local franchise owners have advertised with us since day one. They just changed ownership and the new owners are advertising for January too. They don't have a set corporate plan, its up to the franchisees.

I think that a "fitness challenge" contest is a good way to get more people to join a gym. The advertiser can challenge the public to join and participate in a competition that is guided by personal trainers, diet recommendations and dedication to reach the Hottest and Most Fit Body Contest. If the member fails to reach their recommended goal than the advertiser will then provide a one year free membership to that one individual. I think it is a good way to increase traffic.

This isn't a creative idea, but a thought that might create some urgency in the client's mind.

A couple of years ago a plastic surgeon told me that his busiest week every year, in terms of new patients calling in, is the week in February when the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue comes out. Women come home and see their husbands or boyfriends looking at Kate Upton... and then they look in the mirror.

February is when the new-year-resolution crowd begins to thin out at the gym, so the timing might be right to go after new members. Mention the Swimsuit Issue idea to the gym owner and see if he'd be interested in campaign aimed at women.

The first cut on this playlist is a spot I created for Snap Fitness, that ended up a Radio Mercury finalist in 2013, provided here for demonstration purposes as a thought-starter. NOTE: This spot is available for use by radio stations serving other Snap Fitness franchisees on a market-exclusive basis. Message me for details. Thanks!
