Several years ago we staged a Shamrock Hunt on St. Patrick's Day. We made and numbered dozens of six inch green tagboard shamrocks. Very early the morning of St. Paddy's Day we hid these all over our community in public places. We did not announce the contest until after they were all in place and recorded on our master map. The back of each Shamrock included printed instructions to return the Shamrock to the radio station during regular business hours and redeem it for one of our many prizes from the Shamrock Promotion Sponsors. A 3 day expiration was included along with a disclaimer of "one per household." (Numbered envelopes included certificates for eveything from taco coupons, to water park and concert tickets, plus other valuable gift certificates.) It's great to add interest with at least one larger prize. If by day two all Shamrocks are not redeemed, use the master map to give clues. This promotion creates buzz and provides great opportunity for multiple "cash+prize" sponsorships.
