Radio sales is a SECOND career.  What is the average starting salary for someone with a sales background, but has no radio sales experience?  And, it is the norm not to get paid travel?  Do radio sales reps pay their own expenses?

    Hope,

Starting salary vary from market to market.  But it is in the companies best interest to give you a starting salary that you can live on until you can get your clients established.  If not they are stuck finding another rep.  I came from a sales background, but not media.  The process for me was still the same.  Learn my product, educate potential clients and establish relationships.  I'm not a radio sales rep anymore.  I'm a trusted consultant now.  This is a business that gets in your blood.  Either you will love it or hate it!

I will say that in my job before radio I was the top sales rep making a decent living.  That was 8 years ago.  After my first year in radio I have never made less then my best year at my previous job.  I now make double that.

As for your other 2 questions.  We do not get paid for our expenses.  We are allowed to find a fuel trade.  I use my lunch expenses as tax write offs.  Again, I also have a few lunch trades that I use for clilents.

Do not be scared!  If you buy in you can make plenty!

Please let me know if you have any other questions.
