Made the decision to get into radio sales

I know that there are easier jobs out there that are sales but for me the choice wasn't about the challenges of making the sale or the money. For me it is about the people. That small businessman who runs a family owned business getting the chance to be heard like the corporations chains getting a fair chance to grow his business all because he of some air time.
I want to be part of that world. So I'm here to ask all of you experts how can I do that? I am trying to compose a cover letter and mission statement for my resume but they come out boring and stale. What can I say that would stand out enough to land me an interview?
My ideal station format would be contemporary Christian, then country, then talk news.
    Thank you for your help.

Approach the station just like you would a small business. How are you going to help them increase business? What history do you have of doing this?
