Our president and sales manager has recently desired interest in wanting to boost sales for 4th Q into 1st. At your stations do you have any "contests" of some kind to maybe boost morale and competitiveness in house?
If so - Are there prizes for the top contributors? What are the prizes?
Brian,
I'll feature your post in next week's newsletter, so I'm sure you'll get some great ideas from other RSC members, but in the meantime, you might like to check out these discussion threads: Incentives for Sales Staff and Sales Contests and Friday Poll: How Do You Motivate Your Sales Team? There are some good ideas there!
Also, RSC member Jessica Norgaard recently posted this in another thread:
Hope this helps!

I worked as a Business Manager (F & I) for car dealers for almost 25 years before coming to radio. I can tell you that those sales teams were always motivated by cash and I think that still applies today. What we used to do at our sales meetings or on a random day was tape a $50.00 bill to the tote board and say, the first person who brings a deal that closes gets the money or the first person to bring F & I a credit app gets the money or the first person that sells the....whatever car that had been on the lot too long, Believe me....those guys hustled for that money and one of the reason they did (very funny) was that they didn't have to tell their wives they won it...it was THEIR mad money!! I would think things like gas cards would also be a good incentive. The idea is, don't make it a habit but make it random. Don't want anyone getting used to working hard only when there is an incentive.
The best internal contest we ever did was when we took two sales reps, made them team captains and had a draft of both sales reps and air talent and support staff. Everyone was involved.
The teams were to come up with revenue generating ideas. All dollars created from those ideas went to the teams total. There were weekly prizes and a grand "team prize" at the end with a party for all.
The morale of the station was never better. The interaction between all employees was never better and the ideas flowed freely that turned into both short term and long term income ideas for the station and all involved.
Many stations subscribe to the rule that, "The beatings will continue until moral improves."
