Making Radio Fun!

I learned something today!  Well, I learn stuff everyday but today a light bulb appeared over my head on this one...

You see, I've been doing this radio sales gig now for a very short 10 months.  I was very fortunate to inherit customers giving me instant commissions.  I was told that one of the my existing customers would be a complainer, complain about the ads, the prices, and the amount of time I took out of their day to get updated ads.  I can't control the price, so I decided I would focus on reducing the amount of time I took from them on updating ads.  So, I did my research, and would show up with a copy already written and just get their blessing on the changes.

That changed two weeks ago (it took my til today to realize it).  They wanted a funny halloween ad to use.  so, I used the scariest part of my brain and came up with a pretty funny halloween ad (if I do say so myself).  Not only did I give them the copy this time, but I decided I would produce it and be the voice.  I used my best dracula voice and the best halloween music we had in our library.  They bought it, they laughed and said it was perfect!

Today, I stopped by to discuss our next campaign and I immediately noticed a change.  The owner ran out front to see me, see what I had come up with and then she took over with a smile on her face.  She was laughing about some of our ideas, playing with words and asked me to leave it so they could write it.

I've been thinking about it all day today and I realized, radio just became fun for them!  They no longer seen it as a chore, but something they could do, and it was fun!

My favorite part of my career is writing the ads and I guess my enjoyment has rubbed off on one customer.

Football is on and my ADD is kicking in so I will leave this post as is and look forward to reading everyone's comments!

So far, I really like writing the ads.  I can see how this is a fun career.  Having clients out the gate would've been nice.  Maybe you can upload the spot you made.

That is awesome, when your enthusiasm spreads to your customer!  And I second John Larson's request:  would you please share your ad?
