Ad Campaigns

    Hello, everyone!

I am super new to sales. As in, just-graduated-this-past-May new. The general manager of our station suggested that the new sales hires create their own commercials to air on our station offering our advertising services. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for scripting an individual ad campaign. I would love to have businesses reach out to me instead of vice versa for their marketing, advertising or overall communication needs.

    Any feedback is welcome. Thanks!

"I would love to have businesses reach out to me instead of vice versa for their marketing, advertising or overall communication needs."

Rebecca, so would every other radio salesperson in America.

Don't hold your breath. That's not likely to happen any time soon.

But please don't let this dissuade you from writing and recording a commercial for self-promotion. Be honest, even to the point of appearing vulnerable. It will enhance your credibility with advertisers and prospects who happen to hear your message. What you lack in experience, you can make up for in enthusiasm, teachability, and being willing to go the extra mile.

You might also incorporate bits of advertising wisdom you pick up from other sources. Be sure to credit the source when appropriate. "So-and-so says _____________________________, and I believe that.  How about you? Can you use some help with your advertising? I'd love to work with you..."

With experience and some successes under your belt, you'll be in a position to enlist clients to participate in these commercials. Record conversations with them, rather than trying to script them. Testimonials must sound authentic and natural, not scripted or contrived.

You might also want to blog about your daily experiences as a new salesperson, the encounters with prospects, what went right, what went wrong, what you learned, etc. You never know who'll get hooked on your story and maybe share it with others. Besides, it's a great tool for tracking your progress over time, provided you keep up with it.

Finally, there have been some great suggestions on this topic in other discussions. Suggest you look HERE and HERE for starters.

By all means, please share what you come up with!

This is a great idea.  when you do it make ads that change every two weeks and plan on doing it for an entire year.  Treat YOURSELF the same way you would treat any customer of the station.  Do a CNA on yourself and come up with what makes YOU worth their time.  They will not call you, but when you arrive they will know you.
