Anyone have any successful Mothers Day promotions you have done in the past that you would be willing to share?

    Super Shopping with Mom!

Get 6 businesses that are industry exclusive (jewelry, spa, clothing, handbags etc. we even had a hardware store) They $1000 each plus proved $250 in store credit. They are sign up locations for the event. We promoted the event for 4 weeks driving people to sign up. Then we drew on our news the lucky winner. That person ( or their mom) gets to go shopping at each of those locations. They also get to bring 5 other guests of their choice with them. We also gave them $500 in cash from our station. We got a limo company to trade for the limo and we also got a place for breakfast and lunch. So they get a full day of shopping in a limo with 5 guests. The in store credit at each location must be used that day they can use the $500 anyway they like. Now for ours we actually ended the day with pedicures for the winner and the guests. It went off without a hitch and was extremely successful for everyone involved!

On the RSC Facebook page, Mary Ellen Moss suggested, a "Mother daughter look alike contest."

There is this one ... it sell well but listener response is sometimes lacking. If retailers are looking for name recognition it works great but if they want the registration box to fill up ... not so much. The promotion is called "Throw Mama from the plane!" Have listeners register in store or on line and tell why they want to throw Mama from the plane. We hired (actually traded) a local Skydiving club to to a tandem jump. We scheduled the jump during the Lion's Club Fly In. We had hugh crowds and the skydivers sold tandem jumps to anyone brave enough to go up. The promotion gets people talking and your announcers can have a ball with it. We had our morning team jump.

    Hope this helps.

WAKO AM FM has a mother of the year contest.    We invite our listeners to write a letter in 250 words or

less and tell us why your mom is the best.       We have 3 or 5  people come in the Thursday before mothers day

and determin which letter is the best.         They actually choose 3 - first, second and third.   On Friday morning I go down to the local Sheriffs office and do a background check just to make sure we don't get clobbered with some un-known

fact.         I then call the person who wrote that letter and arrange a surprise phone call with the new WAKO

Mother of the Year.       We record that call and we air it on Saturday after our 12;15pm local news broadcast.

Then air it all day Satruday pm and all day Sunday.       Then we call a press conference [pre arranged by letting the area newspapers know in advance]  for 10am Monday day after mothers day here at the station.    We also award

her numerous prizes from the clients who bought the promotion.      We usually sell 30 commercial that can be used anytime in May not necessarily for mothers day content.     We also have them donate an item with a minimum value of

$40.00 that  is awarded to the WAKO Mother of the Year.     We have done this now for 37 years and it has

developed into a wonderful honor for the Mother.

Submitted in a different discussion thread by Jack Walker of Branson, MO:

    What about something like this.

Go to various locations with regular remotes or big events where you can stick a microphone in front of people. Ask them to identify their name and hometown and ask them what makes their mom the best in the whole world. Get one presenting sponsor (florist would be good), promo the heck out of it, and on Mother's Day play pieces of the interviews throughout the day.
